While at uni, you may be interested in various sports and recreation options that allow you to meet new friends, keep fit and healthy, and manage stress.

U@MQ ACTIVE is committed to providing the students and staff at Macquarie with a premier service designed to maintain a healthy, fit, lifestyle as well as bring out excellence in the committed athlete.

U@MQ casts a wide net offering many opportunities to join a large variety of sporting clubs which offer the chance to meet new friends and compete and participate in a friendly atmosphere.

Recent completion of the $12m, state of the art Sport and Aquatic Centre caters for everyone, including:

  • Gymnasium for weight and fitness training and exercise advice.
  • Heated indoor/outdoor swimming pools.
  • Cardio Theatre and cycle studio.
  • Group fitness studio hosting a range of group fitness classes.
  • Excellent courts and facilities cater for the competitive or social squash, tennis or badminton player while martial arts, basketball, netball and volleyball teams are all catered for.
  • A Café, to cater for your healthy lifestyle.

We realise university is more than just lectures, classes, readings and homework. That is why U@MQ ACTIVE offers a diverse range of short courses, adventures and day trips to provide you with a healthy balance at Macquarie University, through our Learn...Go...Discover program. U@MQ ACTIVE has a wide variety of social sporting options to help you keep active, healthy and happy. With a range of recreational and social sports to learn and play, from fencing to rugby, lawn bowls and AFL, Macquarie caters for all interests no matter what sport!

For the more serious competitor, University Games allows you to compete in a multitude of team sports. Rest assured you're in good company, with Macquarie recently winning the Australian Uni Games (AUGs), and just this year playing host to the top sporting universities in NSW with the East Coast Challenge. Playing University Sport provides a great opportunity to travel and develop strong friendships and camaraderie with like-minded individuals.

If you are an elite athlete you should investigate our sports scholarships and elite athlete entry scheme. Even if you are not an elite athlete, coaching is provided to ensure your skills base improves while you have fun.

Just across the road from the University, is Macquarie's sporting fields, providing over 7 hectares of specialist playing areas, including one of the largest AFL ovals in Sydney. Various international sporting teams have utilised our sports fields over the years including the All Blacks, and Macquarie is currently the training ground for Sydney FC.
