Business encompasses the fields of marketing, business administration, human resource management and demographics. Business can be studied in both general and specialist degrees. A general degree such as Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Economics would suit students who want greater flexibility in their choice of subjects around a core of studies in economics and commerce. Specialist undergraduate degrees include Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of International Business, Bachelor of Commerce – Marketing and Bachelor of Human Resource Management.

The Bachelor of Business Administration is an interdisciplinary course which prepares you for a career in business management without a full specialisation in subject areas such as accounting or economics. The core program includes business, economics, finance, information technology, marketing, organisational behaviour and statistics. In second and third year you choose a number of electives which may include accounting, business, business law, demography, economics, finance, human resource management, information systems, language, law, marketing, organisational psychology and operations research. As the course progresses there is flexibility to tailor your studies to suit your interests.
A special feature of this Bachelor of Business Administration is a one semester study abroad or exchange program to develop cross-cultural skills and prepare you for a career in international business.
This degree explores the management of people and change in contemporary workplaces. Strong emphasis is placed on the psychology of learning and the processes and techniques of developing a learning organisation. You will also gain an understanding of employment relations and organisational behaviour in the workplace.
In the final year you will complete a human resource management consulting project in an organisation to refine your skills and competencies. The first year is a fixed program of study
covering fundamental human resource issues with introductory
psychology units.
This degree is for anyone considering a career with multinational corporations or large, internationally oriented NGOs (non-governmental organisations). There is flexibility to tailor a study pattern according to the your interests. You may prefer to focus on strictly ‘business relevant’ courses, or choose courses that relate to the wider political, economic and/or cultural context within international business activities.
The program consists of a core component of compulsory units together with a range of elective modules, from which you must choose two. These modules allow students to go into greater depth in their areas of interest.

HSC Mathematics is recommended study for first-year business administration, demography, and international business units. HSC Business Studies and English Standard are also recommended studies for human resource management. Other units taken as part of a degree may required assumed knowledge, prerequisites or recommended studies and you should refer to the Macquarie University Handbook of Undergraduate Studies for full degree requirements.
The Bachelor of Business Administration with the Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting leads to accreditation with CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA).
