The Area of Study
Accounting is the collection, measurement and communication of economic information which is used for planning, reporting and decision making. Accountants are employed in all areas of commerce, industry and government. They are in demand world-wide, and undertake a range of activities such as participating with top management to set future direction for an organisation, analysing potential growth opportunities for new products and markets, developing management information systems to facilitate decision-making and organisational control, as well as reporting on an organisations performance.
The Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting program consists of core and elective units, which lead to professional membership of CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). If you do not wish to be a professionally qualified accountant you may choose the Bachelor of Commerce which has fewer core accounting units. This allows you to follow alternative studies in accounting that may include finance, management accounting, computing/information systems and marketing.
