Future Students

Full-time / Part-time

Because there can be a certain amount of flexibility in the number of units a student can elect to study some students get confused deciding which category of study they belong.

A full-time undergraduate student is defined as someone enrolled in 9 credit points or more per semester.

A full-time student normally undertakes 8 units per year, and each unit is allocated a credit point value. Most units are semester based and worth 3 or 4 credit points each.

A degree requiring 68 credit points will normally take 3 years of full-time study to complete.

More comprehensive information is available on the Undergraduate studies What’s involved in a degree? page.

Part-time study

A part-time undergraduate student is defined as someone enrolled in fewer than 17 credit points per year or less than 9 credit points in half a year.

You may change your attendance status by semester according to the workload you wish to undertake. In selecting applicants for admission, no consideration will be given to whether you have selected full-time or part-time attendance.

Evening Classes

For whatever reason, be it work, children or other commitments, many people are unable to attend the regular university tutorials and lectures during the day. At Macquarie, we understand this and seek to provide the fullest education possible for those who need to attend classes in the evening. To see if this would be the right option for you, have a look at the Centre for Open Education evening classes.

Remember not all options are available for all courses, but you can change your attendance status by semester if your commitments change.
